Politics

Labor unions have long been actively involved in American politics. Over the years unions have used their money and manpower to support political candidates who are sympathetic to labor causes. By the early 1950s labor, which had strongly supported the election of Franklin Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman in the 1940s, had made itself an important player within the Democratic Party.   Today, over 70 years later, that hasn’t changed.  Local 1546 remains a political factor, both through mobilization of our own membership and through coalitions with like-minded activist organizations around issues such as immigrant rights, trade policy, health care, and living wage campaigns.

We support those candidates who represent our views on labor and who will fight for our members and their families.  We support legislation that we know will help our members and vigorously fight against those policies and laws that we believe will harm labor.
